The Vegetables I Am Trying To Grow For The First Time Ever

This will also be a cute little list of vegetables I am trying to grow and am just looking for some words of wisdom going into this growing season. All of these are vegetables that I really enjoy in the summer and am so excited to try out.

Melon

Honestly, I wasn’t planning to planting a melon this year. I really hadn’t considered growing melons before but I saw them during a trip to Home Depot and thought it would be fun. I’m hoping for at least one melon but have no expectations as I have done no research on them!

Arugula

My partner and I put arugula on everything. Pizza, sandwiches…well that’s honestly about it but we eat those regularly! Our local Italian grocery store sold some seeds that we are trying out.

Carrots

I don’t know why but these seem hard to me? I’ve have heard bad stories in the past couple years from co-workers and am anticipating failure- but will be pleasantly surprised if I succeed.

Beets

I recently learned I like pickled beets! I have tried them before in Greek salads and never enjoyed them but my refined adult palette sure likes them pickled. I don’t know if my beets will grow as well as Schrute Farms but I sure will try!

Corn

I LOVE FALL. My corn, pumpkin, and beans (three sisters) planting is going to be so fun. I can’t wait to try this out. Also, I plan to have sunflowers planted in with the corn so I think they may make for some cute dog pictures in the fall.

Cucumber

I can’t believe I haven’t grown these yet. These have always been one of my top vegetables, I used to eat one a day in high school.

Onions

Our top vegetable we use. Pretty head to head with garlic but we always used them together anyways. We put that shit in everything.

One mistake I made with onions is I didnโ€™t leave them in the ground long enough!

    1. Good advice. I am very impatient so hopefully I won’t make this mistake now!!
