My Garden Layout – Vegetables, Fruits, Flowers, and Herbs

I know I have promised more details in my garden series – and I can assure you we will still talk about them. But frankly, I am in the stages of planning my garden layout for the season and I would love any comments anyone can offer that may help my garden flourish this year!

As previously discussed, I plan to delve into what herbs I am planting, what veggies I have had luck with in the past, and dive into the plants I am attempting to grow for the first time. There will also be a post that both rants and raves about my garden location and the struggles we have had this past spring preparing the soil.

My Garden layout

Below is my current garden plan for this year. There is a combination of a lot of plants I have grown, some of my growing favorites, and 27 total tomato plants. We are big tomato lovers. I am also trying a new method to trellis my tomatoes – so stay tuned for that.

I have spent a decent amount of time researching companion planting, the needs of each plant, as well as the necessary spacing for the individual seeds I have. However, I am sure I have a lot left to learn. Any advice that any reader has gained over the years would be a welcome opinion.

I plan to have my garden be on the ground rather than raised beds. I also plan to use a mulch on the walking isles to add more nutrients and block weed growth.

My fence will not be permanent because I am unsure if this will be the future for my garden in my next couple years, so I don’t want to waste any money overly committing. I have been super lucky in the past with critters not getting into my garden, my main issue is my dog, Bear. She loves laying in the dirt of my gardens, so I have to be able to keep her out.

other garden growth

The weather is finally feeling like planting temps here in Maine and I am starting to get antsy to finish my garden soil prepping and get into planting.

Another reason I am getting so excited for this season, I have been having major success in my indoor growing season. All of my tomato seedlings and pepper seedings have germinated and this is my healthiest indoor growing season I have experienced.

This is my first year not using a germination lid, using larger seedling start trays, and growing under a grow light rather than just in a window. The success has been electrifying. I did slight research into my gardening goals and I am already seeing a return of investment in my efforts. I feel very grateful to be able to learn more about gardening this year.

Below is a 4 day difference in my tomatoes and peppers. I had barely had any peppers sprouted 4 days ago and now most of my tomatoes have real leaves and all my peppers are healthy little seedlings.

Like I said, I would love to hear other peoples gardening wisdom! Please share your thoughts if you have any on the matter. I want to learn and grow along side my plants (I know cheesy, right?).
