Halloween is my favorite season and lately it feels like everything else, Halloween has become expensive. Goodwill used to be the best place to get cheap, but quality decorations, but lately I haven’t had any luck finding anything good.
Buying stuff at Dollar Tree is always a cheap option, but they don’t usually have much large items, and Dollar Tree has never been known for selling high quality items.
I decided to take matters into my own hands, because I am trying to save money to go to Italy next year. I can’t spend $200 just on Halloween decor. This DIY option is easy, cheap if you have scrap wood around your house, and is a fun family activity for all ages.

What you need
- Scrap plywood
- Saw
- Spray paint
- Acrylic paint
- Wood sealant
Total cost: $30-$50
instructions
- Draw outline of the design you want on your scrap plywood
- Cut out the shapes (or ask someone who is comfortable using a saw to cut it for you)
- Wipe the plywood clean of dust with a wet rag
- Spray paint your plywood
- Use acrylic paint to make a fun design! We made a ghost, a pumpkin, and a couple gravestones
- Once your designs are dry, use a wood waterproofing sealant to make sure the acrylic paint doesn’t wash away!

We have one of the infamous 12ft Skeleton, so this graveyard will surround him. We named our skeleton Ulysses. I need to seal the plywood, but we have family in town currently. I will add photos of the final product in the ground in the next week.
But I think our designs turned out pretty dang good!

Stay tuned for next week if you liked my last pizza recipe. I have a deep dish Sicilian-style pizza that is to die for. Make sure your subscribe and follow us on Pinterest so you get our updates. You will not want to miss my next post!
