This holiday season I decided to make sourdough loaves instead of Christmas cookies to hand out! Like most best friends, Hailey and I are the opposites attract trope and our difference bring us together. Hailey is the sweets baker and I am the bread baker.
If you want amazing Christmas cookies? Then you need to start aggressively commenting on our posts asking Hailey to write more cookie posts. If you want Christmas bread? Then you can check out my flavored sourdough recipes.
This was my holiday present go-to this year, and it was a huge hit!
2 sourdough flavors, 1 loaf
This really doesn’t require much explanation, but I will give it a go:
- Pick 2 sourdough flavor combos (I used regular sourdough and cranberry walnut)
- Make a 1/2 batch of each type of bread in separate bowls
- When it is time, add into the Banneton to rise
- Before baking, make sure you score each “side” of the bread
- Bake as normal

This is my first year trying out this method of combining flavors and honestly I am so happy with it. I didn’t want to give everyone 2 loaves of bread, that seemed a bit extra. However, I couldn’t decide on if I wanted to do a holiday loaf or a regular. I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

I ordered a 4-pack of bannetons for myself because I have been making multiple loaves of bread at the same time lately and I decided to treat myself rather than use a homemade banneton. Having bannetons are not necessary; however, they definitely are much more convenient if you are baking all the time.
