After living and traveling in the burd bus for about 8 months now, we have seen quite a few places. I figured it was time to share five of our favorites so far (in the order we visited them).

Since leaving Michigan back in September of 2022, we have traveled along the entirety of the east coast from Maine to the Florida Keys. After our time in Florida, we drove along the gulf coast into Texas. From Texas, we drove through the southwest into California and then up Hwy 1 along the west coast to Seattle.

Portland, ME And The Surrounding Metropolitan Area

As you may know from some of my previous posts, we spent about 4 months in total in Maine, specifically at Steph’s house. I absolutely fell in love with Maine while we were there. Amazing seafood (and a ton of other great restaurants), beautiful and untouched nature, and some of the nicest people.

We are so thankful to have been able to spend the entirety of the fall there. The colors of the trees were absolutely breathtaking. We were able to spend some time hiking in Acadia National Park and in a variety of other places along the coast and in the inland forests.

Jacob and I also had the opportunity to volunteer at a local small-scale dairy farm. There were about 18 cows, 6 of which were actively being milked while we were there. The farm was absolutely gorgeous and had the cleanest, happiest cows we have ever seen. The farm is called Stillbrook Acres and has -by far- the best milk I’ve ever tried.

Being in Maine for 4 months, we also had the opportunity to be with Steph and her husband, Sammy, for multiple holidays, birthdays, and fun events. Steph and I got into a gym routine, we had multiple bonfires with friends, tried some great restaurants, and even built an igloo!

Savannah, GA

Savannah was a truly magical city. We were lucky enough to find a brewery to park at overnight just outside of downtown and were able to drive into the city on our motorcycle.

We spent our time in the city meandering through the many streets and parks admiring the gorgeous homes, gigantic live oak trees, and trying a variety of food. You definitely have to get some fresh made pralines and some good southern cooking while you’re there.

My feelings about Savannah are short and sweet. it’s a city much smaller than its sister, Charleston, but just so breathtakingly gorgeous.

Big Bend National Park, TX

Big Bend has quickly made its way to being one of my all-time favorite national parks.

Having spend most of my life in Michigan, I was definitely wary of spending an extended period in the middle of nowhere in the desert. The park is quite a drive from any cities and there are only a few towns within a two hour drive of the place.

Jacob and I arrived in Big Bend at the PERFECT time. A week before we arrived in the park, there had been a snowstorm that deposited 6 inches of snow throughout the park. By the time we arrived, the snow had melted, the weather was in the mid-70s, and absolutely everything was in bloom.

We spent our time there enjoying many hikes, seeing wild horses, enjoying the bouquets of flowers sprouting from nearly every cactus in sight, and swimming in hot springs.

This park is definitely a must see!

Northern New Mexico, NM

While noting “Northern New Mexico” as a whole might seem like a lot to encompass, the entire area was truly our favorite.

From the city of Taos, where we enjoyed Puebloan New Mexican food, beautiful art, and the Rio Grande Gorge. To Red River in the mountains to the north where we met some amazing people and enjoyed days on the river. To Chaco Canyon to the west where we wandered through some of the most impressive ruins I’ve ever seen.

The entire area deserves a visit. It was truly a life changing place.

Sedona, AZ

I’d always heard Sedona described as a magical place. A place where you could feel a strange energy that made anything seem possible. Well, let me tell you, Sedona is definitely as magical as everyone says.

Between the gorgeous red rock formations, the Oak Creek valley, and the amazing hiking, I don’t think we could have asked for anything better.

Sedona is also the place where we almost got a puppy. Throughout most of our trip, Jacob and I had been joking about how cool it would be to find a dog somewhere. We often discussed breeds we liked and how great it would be if the dog came to us for free. Well, our first night in Sedona proved to make this thought a reality. As we made our way down a forest road through a valley in the southern part of Sedona there were a ton of other RVs and campers around us.

The spot that we chose happened to be right next to a woman that was taking an adorable red colored puppy for a walk. After speaking with her, we learned that she had rescued the puppy in Mexico… and that she was hoping to give him away for free to a good home. The puppy was a red colored Labrador Retriever mix. This happened to check every box that we had come up with.

It seemed to good to be true. Sadly, after MUCH deliberation, we decided that now wasn’t a great time for us to have an 8 week old puppy, especially while living in such a small space. But, wow, wouldn’t it have been amazing?
