Dandelion? Like, the weed that grows in my lawn? Absolutely. As you’ll learn in this article, roasted dandelion root is flavorful and has some amazing health benefits!
The dandelion blend that I use to make drinks is my absolute Holy Grail of ingredients. It combines roasted dandelion roots with the root of a few other grains and herbs to make something truly special.
Over the past few months, you’ve likely seen my posts about delicious drinks I make in the mornings. These drinks range from Coconut Hot Chocolate to Chai Tea. Both of these are warming, lightly sweetened, and oh-so satisfying. They’re also absolutely perfect for those of us that are a bit caffeine sensitive or are just trying to cut down on consumption.
Read along to get my favorite recipe and to learn about the benefits associated with this mix.
The benefits of Dandelion & The Blend I Use
Dandelion has been known as a fantastic medicinal herb in many cultures for hundreds of years. Presently there is medical evidence that:
- Dandelion is very nutritious, containing a wide variety of vitamins and minerals (will address in detail below).
- Dandelion is rich in inulin, a prebiotic fiber. Adding this to your diet can help improve digestion.
- according to testing, Dandelion is shown to be helpful in normalizing blood pressure and may lower Cholesterol levels.
As usual, ask your doctor before using a new herb or supplement. Dandelion is known to have potential interactions with blood pressure medications, antibiotics, and some sedatives.
Dandy Blend

The brand of dandelion powder I use is Dandy Blend and it’s absolutely amazing. It contains a blend of dandelion, chicory root, barley, and rye. All of these herbs are roasted and ground into a fine powder.
The result is a nutritious, warming cup that resembles coffee. According to their website, just 1 tsp of dandy blend contains the following amount of nutrients:
- Potassium 22.2 mg
- Sodium 3.2 mg
- Phosphorus 2.8 mg
- Magnesium 2.0 mg
- Calcium 2.1 mg
- Iron 0.9 mg
- Aluminum 0.05mg
- Manganese 0.03
Additionally, it also contains a variety of trace nutrients and some fiber!

Process
- Set water to boil and combine dandy blend, sweetener, cinnamon, salt, and optional addition to a cup.
- Add in your milk of choice and get your hand frother out to mix the dry ingredients into the milk well.

- voila! enjoy your delicious drink.
As an alternative to this drink, feel free to add the dandelion mix to your morning cup of coffee like Steph does for an added boost of nutrients and fiber in the morning! You really can’t beat it.
