Do you ever have a moments where you want to make lasagna with spaghetti? This baked ziti is the best way to do it.
My mom always made mostaccioli, which is the same thing as this! Mostaccioli is just a different style of pasta, similar in shape to ziti or penne.
This recipe couldn’t be easier! It takes about 10 minutes to prep and about 40 minutes to cook, assuming you already have your marinara sauce ready. If not, take a look at my Homemade Marinara recipe.

Ingredients
- Marinara sauce (Homemade or 2 jars of store-bought)
- 1lb Italian sausage
- 1 – 16oz box Ziti pasta (penne or mostaccioli works too)
- 16oz Mozzarella
- 1/2 cup Pecorino Romano or Parmesan Reggiano
Recipe
- Pre-heat the oven to 350°
- Boil some water and salt it
- Cook the pasta based on the box recommendations
- Cook the Italian sausage & add it in the marinara
- Mix the marinara, pecorino, a couple ounces of mozzarella, and the cooked ziti in a casserole dish
- Top the casserole with the rest of the mozzarella and bake for 40 minutes

Like most casseroles, you got to give it some time to cool before you cut into it and eat. This baked ziti is like lava when it first comes out of the oven.
If you make homemade marinara, you can add in the Italian sausage while the sauce is simmering, so the flavor immerses into the sauce.
